First rough cut of Documentary. SS

This is our first rough cut of "The Shoot". We have managed to cut it down to 8 minutes, and are intending to cut it down to the 5 minute requirement in the next lesson. This is because Amy is away today, due to illness, and it seemed impractical to go head with the editing whist she is absent. I have kept her updated through email during this lesson, though, telling her what's happening today. Where the Documentary would be cut is from 4 minutes 10 seconds, to 5 minutes into the footage as there are many of the same shots in this time frame.

We also intend to move the questions for the interview around, mixing them in with the footage. This would create a sort of narrative, along with creating more of a verity within the documentary it's self. This is because there is more of a variety at the end, and more of the same thing in the start, and middle of the footage. To Broaden the skills shown in the footage, we decided to move the interview. There is also a typo within the question slides. this is the word 'effect', which will be altered to the word 'affect', instead. The reason behind the lighting fluctuation within the film is the level difference when in the quarry between Amy and me. and the shooters at the top of the hill. the ledge in the hill blocked off some of the light to us, thus creating the silhouette shots.

Update on Documentary edit process. SS.

We are still in the process of editing it all together, still. However now, Amy has figured out how to use the program properly, so this phase of cutting everything together should go a lot faster. I have also started the research of Newspaper advertisements and television double page spreads for the chosen ancillary tasks. With both of us doing each task, we are able to get more work done quicker.

Ancillary Tasks. SS

The Ancillary Tasks we have chosen to do are the Newspaper advert and the Double page spread. We have seen a few different styles of each, and are planning on using different aspects of each one.

For example, in this version of a DPS, we could use the simplistic style. The image of the man, sitting alone adds the emphasis of him being the main character - although the large shadow, with a different shape to that of the man makes it seem like the shadow shifts the main focus from the man, to the shadow.











In this one, we can use the layout for the text. If we were to have the main image dominating the page, like this, it would attract the reader. You see the image, then your eyes would shift over to the text to read what it's about.











For the Newspaper advert, we have seen a few examples exhibiting different styles, too. These are:

 

We decided that we like the simplistic style of this, because although it is just a image of a sheep next to a bed, the audience knows that it will be somehow linked to sleep. the text is short and sweet, giving the time of the show, and what channel it's on, along with the date.

Update of the Documentary. SS

So far we have successfully uploaded the footage onto one of the Mac computers.  We are now in the process of editing it all together, adding the transitions and cutting the footing down to size -as it is approximately 20 minutes so far. We are doing the editing on one computer, while on the other, we plan to do the updates and ancillary  tasks.

The day of the shot and uploading the footage - SS.

The shooting day went quite well. We were able to get a variety of shots, including panning, long shots, and medium shots along with shots of the dogs, the shooters and the land.

When uploading the footage onto the Mac, we had a problem. This was the fact that he footage wouldn't upload at all on the computer due to a technical hitch. However, this was solved and we are now in the process of uploading it. After this, we will use the facilities on Final Cut Express to edit the footage together from both cameras used (One was on a Tripod, for a stable shot, while the other was hand held).

Story board change. SS.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have decided to film on Tuesday the 20th December. This is a 'shooting' day, so we will be using our original story board to follow. This new date is better for the filming because it means we will be able to film from 8:00m to 4:30pm, thus getting all the footage we need in one session, rather than going for a morning and getting half the footage.
